[applause] >> thank you for having me here today. it is a real honor. i was born and raised in berkeley. a big moment in my life was taking the transit over to san francisco for my first show, which was the specials. when i was a young, poor person in san francisco, which most young people in san francisco at least at that time were poor, just because of the cost of living here. i used to go to all of the clubs and places. my dream was to when they appear on stage at one of them. the closest i ever came was to putting my name on the open mike list at the old -- the open market from its at the elvis crossed. keep doing that job, keep reminding us what we have to do, keep the agenda in front of us and keep educating our public. you know, our public sometimes in the enjoyment of success and our city is becoming more and more successful, we sometimes might have those moments that we forget how we got here. one of the things i just want to make sure you know, we would not be a successful city if we did not invest in our community-based organizations. that's the real secret in how we've been becoming successful in making sure we increase the numbers of women that are served or end the violent homicides or reduce the number of domestic violence cases or increase the number of women that serve on our commissions and our departments. it's working in the community constantly having that as our forefront, building strong communities. again, thank you very much and congratulations to all the honorees. thank you very much. drag queens in public spaces, offended and some of the things that are said here it was said about us and i was one those were offended by. they were offended by the sight of me in woman's clothing so pardon me for not feeling sympathetic and i was the object of that when i came out and also in san francisco i remember a time when we tried to set up shelters for homeless youth in the castro and i was involved with that and people at the meetings said the same thing. they were offended by homeless queer youth. business people said it was driving away business that our youth was homeless and no one was doing anything because they had no where to go. these are the same arguments. this really bothered me and someone that has given 42 years of my life to the community and finally i want to remind everybody that bevin dufty, the former supervisor in my district, had no problem with his daughter hanging out with the naked man and he was quoted as saying that he had a harder time explaining war than nudity. think about that. thank you. >> thank you. next speaker. >> and just to note i have re
